7 Tips for Maintaining a Positive Attitude

We all have those days were things simply do not seem to be going our way.  Learning how to maintain a positive attitude is an important part of self-improvement and creating a happy lifestyle. We wanted to gather a few tips to help YOU keep a positive attitude during negative situations.



It could be traffic, negative feedback, hearing too many “no’s”, a ticket on the way to work or simply having one of those days. Whatever it is, make sure you re-focus your thoughts in order to keep a good attitude. Re-focusing means taking a step back to look at the bigger picture. Instead,  remember to give your energy to something rewarding and impactful.

How to re-focus:

  • Listen to a good song
  • Put on a motivational podcast
  • Smile at a stranger
  • Read an inspirational article
  • Watch an insightful TED talk




It is always important to be attentive of where you are putting your energy. Is it worth thinking about that negative encounter the rest of the day? Should that person who cut you off ruin your morning? Prioritize on adjusting your focus towards something better in order to generate better results.

Take a Break


Sometimes you just need to walk away for a few minutes. There is nothing wrong with taking a break from the chaos. Whether it’s 5 minutes or 5 days, breaks can sometimes be the fix. Stepping back to breathe sometimes allows you to come back stronger. It does not matter what pace you go, as long as you do not stop.


Make Obtainable Goals


Make sure the goals you create for yourself are reachable. This means giving yourself enough time to reach each milestone. Great achievements do not happen overnight. Part of making goals is creating a plan to follow. And if you have ever created a plan, then you know plan requires steps and sometimes even deadlines to follow.  When you’re detailed about what you want, the blueprints to get there become much easier to create.

Change Your Environment 


Your environment is one of the most influential components of productivity. If your environment is messy and unorganized, more than likely, so will you. It is important to maintain a clean environment to keep a clear head. People are also part of your environment, which is why it’s crucial to have people in your life who inspire, motivate and encourage you to be the best version of yourself.


It’s All About Problem Solving


Life is truly all about problem-solving. We will always be faced with inconveniences, shortcomings, and doubts. However, instead of focusing on the problem in hand, a better approach is investing your energy in finding ways it can be fixed.  If you find it can not be fixed make sure all of the steps to minimize harm have been taken. Remember, worrying about what is out of your control is a waste of a good day and a good life.

Create a Perspective of Gratitude


Learning how to keep a positive outlook even in the most negative situations is easier said than done, but truly worth it. When you stop and make the conscious effort to look at the bigger picture, focusing on the good becomes easier, eventually turning into a daily habit.
